    Jaroslav’s father was an alcoholic who taught math and physics at an Austrian high school and later became an actuary in a bank. He died from alcohol abuse when his to-be famous son was only 13 years old. During the first 10 years of his life, Hašek moved seven times. The lazy and badly behaved Jaroslav also joined a gang. Hasek's book is good, a satirical description of a clever idiot's odyssey through the Austro-Hungarian army during World War I. However, I cannot recommend this file because despite the cover and info above it is not actually the Penguin Classics edition.
